What changes in the linen of a property in Lagos, Meia Praia, Praia da Luz or Odiáxere — and what weighs in a laundry quote for this area.
Arelia operates from Lanka Park, in Tavagueira, Guia, in the Albufeira municipality. To Lagos it is 52 km on the A22 or the N125, about 45 minutes.
In a hotel laundry, that distance is not a detail of address. It is what decides the collection frequency anyone can guarantee, the room left for the unexpected, and, in the end, the price per kilo. Any serious quote for a property in Lagos has to put that on the table rather than hide it behind a flattering number.
Nor is there only one kind of hospitality in Lagos. It gathers into quite different realities, and each one poses a linen problem of its own:
Much of the accommodation in Lagos sits inside or against the town walls, on narrow streets where vehicle access is restricted to certain hours. A twelve-room property in the old town cannot take a van whenever it suits.
That has to go into the plan of whoever handles the linen, rather than being discovered in the first week. At Meia Praia the problem is the reverse: larger properties, direct access, big volumes in one go. The same town demands two different ways of organising the round.
Lagos works outside the August peak more consistently than most of the Algarve: surfing, walking and the coastline bring demand in spring and autumn, and some properties barely close at all.
For anyone weighing up an in-house laundry, that cuts both ways. Volume spread across more months means the equipment sits idle for less of the year — but it also means the peak, when it arrives, lands on an operation already running at its limit, with no slack to recover.
If you want numbers on that before deciding, our ROI calculator compares the in-house cost against outsourcing, and our breakdown of what an in-house laundry really costs goes through it line by line.
