A market that does not forgive linen failures.

The stretch between Quarteira and Quinta do Lago holds some of the most demanding hospitality in the country: golf resorts, five-star properties, tourist villages and premium rental villas. In this segment linen is not a consumable — it is a visible part of the product the guest paid for.

At these properties, a sheet with a greyish cast or a towel with a pulled thread feeds straight into the guest review. It is precisely why Arelia started with a premium position and capacity kept in check, rather than a maximum-volume model.

We also cover the rest of the Loulé municipality and the rest of the Algarve.

We are based in Guia, about 20 km from the marina.

Arelia operates from Lanka Park, in Tavagueira, Guia, in the Albufeira municipality. From our door to Vilamoura marina is about 20 km on the N125 — under half an hour.

That is not a detail of address. In an industrial laundry, distance is what decides what you can promise without lying. A collection that means crossing the Algarve end to end goes into a long, rigid circuit where any last-minute change is paid for the following day. At twenty kilometres the route is still a route — but it is short enough that a change stops being a logistics problem and becomes a phone call.

Four different realities within the same few kilometres.

Fewer than fifteen kilometres separate Quarteira from Quinta do Lago, and yet none of these places operates the same way. Treat the whole stretch as one market and you end up designing the service for the average — and the average serves none of them well.

Vilamoura

Vilamoura is a resort planned around one of the largest marinas in the country, with several golf courses inside the development itself. That gives it an occupancy curve unlike the rest of the Algarve: golf pulls demand into spring and autumn, and many properties do well outside the August peak. For linen it means volume spread across more months of the year — and, for that very reason, less tolerance for variation between batches weeks apart.

Quarteira

Quarteira is the opposite in shape. A town with a long seafront, older building stock and a high density of holiday rentals and short-let apartments. The person you deal with is not the rooms director of a three-hundred-room property: it is dozens of small operations, each with its check-outs bunched on Saturday and no store cupboard to pull a spare set of sheets from when a delivery fails.

Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago

In the parish of Almancil, the two resorts run at low density, with villas and private pools. This is the top of the rental market in Portugal and expectations of the linen follow: sheets without the greyish cast that gives away aggressive washing, towelling that keeps its pile, and robes that do not shift colour between washes. Pool towelling stops being an extra and becomes a category with real weight in the monthly volume.

Almancil and Loulé

Almancil is the town that supports both resorts and holds the restaurants serving that same clientele — which brings a need quite separate from bed and bath: front-of-house and kitchen uniforms, and table linen that has to come back unmarked. Loulé is the seat of the municipality all these places sit within.

What changes in a villa rental operation

A rental villa does not work like a hotel. Check-outs bunch on fixed days, the gap between one guest leaving and the next arriving can be hours, and there is no store cupboard holding spare stock to absorb a delay. What the operation needs is predictability: knowing the linen comes back on the agreed day, counted and ready to make up.

At the resorts and the larger properties the challenge is the reverse — volume is large and steady, and what matters is consistency of result across thousands of items, not the handling of any single one.

Bed linen rental with the ARELIA embroidery and digital item tracking are in preparation and are not yet available.

Outsource before investing in machines

Many properties in this area keep an in-house laundry out of inertia, without ever having done the full sum: staff, detergents, energy, water, depreciation on the machines, maintenance and the cost of the space it takes up.

We built a public calculator for exactly that comparison. It asks for no sign-up and shows the assumptions behind every line. If you would rather read the sums before moving any sliders, our breakdown of what an in-house laundry really costs goes line by line through what a Portuguese property spends per kilo.

Water: in the Algarve it stopped being just a cost.

The Algarve’s reservoirs have sat below half capacity since 2022, and the contingency measures approved by the Government went as far as imposing consumption cuts on golf and tourist accommodation. For a property running its own laundry in this stretch — where golf and resorts are precisely the sectors targeted — water has stopped being a line on the bill and become an operational exposure.

It is one of the reasons the case for outsourcing has shifted in recent years. We gathered what is known about consumption per kilo and what can genuinely be saved in how to cut a laundry’s water use by 35%, with every source named and not a single figure presented as a measurement of ours.

Frequently asked questions

Do you serve rental villas as well as hotels?
Yes. We work with hotels, resorts, tourist villages, holiday rentals and rental villas. The collection plan is built around each operation’s check-out calendar.
Can you handle the Saturday check-out peak?
Frequency and collection days are set in the quote, precisely so they track each property’s busiest turnover days.
What is the turnaround time?
Up to 24 hours between collection and delivery, on working days.
How is the price set?
The price per kilo depends on monthly volume, location and collection frequency. Every quote is built case by case.
Where are you based?
At Lanka Park, in Tavagueira, Guia, in the Albufeira municipality — about 20 km from Vilamoura marina on the N125.
Do you serve Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago and Almancil?
Yes. Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago and Almancil fall in the same service stretch as Vilamoura and Quarteira, within the Loulé municipality.
Is pool towelling included?
Yes, on the same circuit as the rest of the towelling. At villas with a private pool it is usually a meaningful volume, so it is worth listing it separately when you ask for a quote.
What about the rise in volume over summer?
High-season volume is one of the figures we ask for before quoting, precisely because that — not the yearly average — is what sizes the service.
